Why Soy?

Soy wax is a "greener" choice for candles. It comes from a vegetable, the soybean plant! Our soy wax is petroleum free, paraben free, pthalate free, sulfate free & synthetic dye free. By using soy candles you are supporting American soybean farmers and making a healthier choice. Our jars are reusable ~ You can actually rinse out your soy candle jar once it has burned down and reuse the jar!

What's wrong with paraffin candles? I've been using them for years!

The definition of paraffin is : a fuel oil: a mixture of liquid hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum and used as a domestic heating fuel and as fuel for aircraft.

Paraffin candles emit 11 harmful gases (according to the American Lung Association) two of which are known carcinogens, benzene and toluene. Paraffin also releases black soot which can stain furniture and walls. Not to mention your lungs!

Why did you start making soy candles?

I started making soy candles because my daughter was allergic to the smoky fumes of paraffin candles. I researched eco-friendly alternative waxes for candles (because I couldn't live without my candles!) and began to develop a candle, made of water soluble, biodegradable, American-grown soy wax. Amazingly, those with chemical sensitivities, asthma & allergies were not affected by soy candles as they were with paraffin candles.

Living on the Cape I realized there weren't many nice souvenirs for visitors to bring home. Who wants a lighthouse magnet?! Not me... We brainstormed names for the candles after our favorite spots on Cape Cod. I began selling on consignment at small gift shops and now, 5 years later, Cape Cod Soy Candles are in many local gift shops and galleries and also in New York City and Charlotte, North Carolina! It is so fulfilling to create a white, smokeless candle as a tribute to this beautiful corner of the world. I truly hope you enjoy them~
